Portfolio

I went out on a limb today and took some shots that I've been working up the nerve to do for a while. Many of you may know of the set of highway interchanges along Rt. 84 and Rt. 9 - there are several overpasses criss-crossing over one another. If you have a keen eye, you will notice that a few of these overpasses are no longer used and the vegetation is starting to take over. I have always wondered what these are like up close and took a chance by exploring the area today (it is State property and I'm sure that I was not supposed to be there!). I parked at the Wendy's restaurant behind the West Farms mall and walked about a half mile to a spot where I could enter this area. From there, I walked a total of about a mile of the different sections of old deserted roads, interchanges, and overpasses - all with a heightened fear of being caught!

For editing, I severely muted to colors to give it a very stark, isolated, forgotten look. I hope you enjoy looking at these as much as I enjoyed exploring. Check out my Fotothing for more in this series.

When is the Final Deadline?

Here we are in the final week of class....  All good things must come to an end :)  The registrar will require me to get the grades in as soon as possible.  To that end, lets make the deadline for all work to be Saturday morning at 10 am...   Please take a moment to go through the checklist for each assignment linked in the upper right hand side of the blog.  As you know, there is a 10 image per day limit to posting new work to your fotothing account with the free version.  That leaves the opportunity to post 40 more images between now and then.

It was a pleasure working with all of you...  Have a great Christmas holiday!.... maybe I'll see you in the new year.

week 8, East Haven Beach

Week 8, East Haven Beach

surrealist painting

I found this assignment very hard at first. It took me a while to get the hang of it.
In the end i really like how the painting came out, i like the eye overlooking everything and the hand coming out of the sand.

Revise week 6 portraits

I hope I did the week six assignment better this time around. I tried to find someone I would be able to trust. This was my younger brother who helped me out. I picked these two because I made him stand there and actual natural (which can be hard for a teenager) but he did pretty well. Hope you all enjoy!

Week 7, East Haven Beach, My son Jadon

Week 7, East Haven Beach

Week 6- Portraits

The first picture is my cat Romeo. I didn't think I would be able to get him to stay still but he was looking out the window so I took the opportunity and actually got quite a few good shots of him. The second picture is my husband, Justin, taken inside our home. I am posting more photos to my fotothing album. Hope you all enjoy! http://www.fotothing.com/emcrowell/

Portraits

The first picture is of my daughter Ava. I didnt think she would stay still for any of the photos, but here she is actually distracted by the t.v. The  next two photos are of my grandparents dog Cleo, she was the perfect model.
I also have more photos on my fotothing site.
Enjoy!

Winter is Here!

Boy is it cold outside. I have to bundle up before grabbing my camera and heading out to take photos. Photography is a serious business and taking pictures outside in the freezing cold is very more serious. LOL. Never the less I love this class. Like you I have eenjoyed Everyone's work this season. Here are two pictures I recently took, I tried to focus as best as i could, but my fingers were getting numb. Enjoy!

Final 2

I loved the look of the dragonflies. I added the additional clouding and thought it made the colors of the dragonflies less abrasive. I love that one is going against flight of the others.

Final 1

I used a water background and loved the look of the hand coming out of the water. It looks like someone is drowning and needing help. I like the look of the eagle who isn't sure of its place looking down over the hand.

Surrealist Attempt

While I've yet to post my photos for the portrait assignment (it's coming...promise!!), here's my entry for the final assignment. I didn't enjoy this as much as I did taking the pictures, but it was interesting!! I think I'm more comfortable in seeing images than creating them.. : )

For my portfolio...

It was a cold day today - only 25 degrees out! Still, I had driven past a few places that I thought would make some interesting photos and decided to explore a little more today. The cemetery is one off the beaten path up in Marlborough, CT. The tunnel is near St. Clements Castle on Rt. 66 in Portland, CT. Drive by too fast and miss it. I had to find a small place to pull off the road to shoot some photos. Finally, the dead tree with the sun coming through was from a local tree farm where we went for our Christmas tree last weekend. I was walking through the tree farm with my wife and kids (camera in hand, of course) and saw this dead tree on the edge of the property. As I walked around, I noticed that the sun was in the right spot. Hope you enjoy.
