More for the portfolio

This week I decided to try going with a Sepia tone on my headstone shots. I'm MUCH happier with the way these pictures look. In fact, I may go back and re-edit last weeks shots because I think they look much better this way! I kept one picture in color because it was just very striking that way...I didn't want to lose the effect! I will say it was quite the adventure to get these pictures though...at the first cemetery, I had to park in a weird place and go in through a small opening in the back gate. That led to me falling and slamming my shin on who knows what! Then, my shots there were cut short because a tow truck arrived and I had to get out of my parking place ASAP! I took a nice long drive (and got some great scenery photos) to get to my second cemetery...and almost ran out of gas! I made it to the gas station on a fume and prayer! Note to self for next time: be more aware!!! Anyway, enjoy some of these. I've posted more on http://www.fotothing.com/jackiejanosko but reached my upload limit, so I will load more tomorrow.

Water & Nature - Week 3

Here are two of my favorite "water" shots. The first was a swan feather caught in the leaves and water. The second one I like because the water backdrop really makes the leaves standout.

Week 3 at the Beach

 
 Today I went to the beach. It was such a beautiful day. There were so many things on the beach that inspired me. I love shells, but i had never seen anything like the can coverd in barnacles before, I thought it was great.

Week four: Shadows and light

The first picture was of my dog. He was just laying there while the sun was keeping him warm, thought it would be a good shot. The second pictute was taken in my moms backyard. The leaf was just sitting there and I thought getting a nice close up would show a nice shadow from the sun. The second picture was taken

Week 2 - Urban Environment

Here are 2 of my favorite pics for week 2. The one on the left is the New Haven Green, and the second is of the state courthouse. Great weather for these pics! I really like how the blue sky acts as an umblemished backdrop.

Out in nature....

Some shots of nature out at Nod Brook Wildlife area in Simsbury, CT. I muted the colors on the small stream coming under the arch. Some late fall berries on a bare branch as well. It was a quiet morning out there.

Downtown

These are pictures are from downtown New Haven. When you stand at the top of the alley way off of Chapel St. that cuts to Temple St., you can see the orange design painted on the walls and garage. The second picture is decorated lights in one of the store fronts.

Week 3: By the Sea or Long Island Sound

I went to Hammonasset Beach today to take these pictures. It was 41 degrees and very windy. I had to run after my hat several times.

As I'm working on a lot of headstone statuary as my Digital Photography 2 theme, I took some shots at a local cemetery. I am a little disappointed in these...after doing shots at Mountain Grove Cemetery in Bridgeport, everywhere else seems boring! I will probably be going to Mountain Grove to do a lot more work this week because it has the most amazing artwork that just happens to be on headstones. But for now, here are some images from some stones in East Haven:

Week Two..Downtown

 
 
 Today i went downtown To the Milford Green. The weather was not very good but i managed to escape the rain and get some good photos. I enjoyed taking pictures of old buldings and of course the obvious street signs. Enjoy!

Week Three By the sea

Even though it was pretty cold, I did enjoy heading to the beach to take pictures. I had a hard time choosing my two favoite shots because I liked almost all of them. But I came to a conclusion and picked this two. I really LOVE the stick shot. Just something about it that really sticks out. As for the log by the water one I thought it was pretty cool as well, because of the shadow and how the water seems to be creeping up. I hope you all enjoy :)

Week 2- Downtown

Last weekend I visited downtown Philadelphia. My husband and I went to Eastern State Penitentiary. Philadelphia has many beautiful sights, and is very historic. The firt pick is a sculpture, I took the picture today, the sky was blue with no clouds and I thought the brignt orange and blue would be a great pic.

Week 1 Introduction

My name is Leah and I am a senior here at Albertus. I am a double major in finance and business management, and this is my first time taking an online class. I recently relocated to New London CT from New Haven, so the commute became very excessive, thus my attempt to an online experience. I am a little nervous about the online format, but I am excited to learn as much as I can about photography, and looking forward to interacting with you all! Week 2- Downtown

I went to downtown Clinton to take these pictures. I really enjoyed taking the time to think about the pictures before I snapped them. The Clock is in the center of town on the old bank building and the other picture is the town hall building. I loved playing the black and white effect. It certainly adds depth to the pictures.
